JOB SUMMARY

Keyworker/Addictions Workers will provide individual support to clients struggling with substance use and co-occurring mental health issues through direct supervision and treatment. Keyworker/Addictions Workers will report to and work closely with the Program Director.

SUMMARY OF JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIRES

  • The individual will be responsible for assigned client care and maintaining the files of clients as well as the supervision of persons in residential substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders treatment services.
  • The incumbent will provide individual and group counseling, make referrals to the clinical therapist, and educate residents with regards to addiction using a therapeutic community model.
  • Coordinate and facilitate educational holistic workshops on mental health and substance use related topics.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of crisis management and the impact of trauma on mental health and substance use issues.
  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings and case discussions.

QUALITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Grade 12, diploma/degree in community support worker, addictions and community service, or relevant post-secondary education such as counselling, social work etc. Other related programs will also be considered.
  • Experience working in a residential treatment setting is an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history, culture, practices, customs, and beliefs.
  • Excellent and proven interpersonal and supportive counselling skills.
  • Experience working with at risk and/or vulnerable population.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Organizational and planning skills with related decision-making abilities.
  • Able to treat each participant with dignity and respect.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check and child abuse registry check (no older than three months).
  • A valid driver’s license with a reliable vehicle and a satisfactory drivers abstract.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Valid First Aid / CPR Certification an asset.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must demonstrate a strong work ethic and be reliable.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines regarding all clients, conversations, and referrals.
