Background:
Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre is currently seeking Casual Respite Helpers within the Yellow Shawl Housing Program. This program is a partnership between the Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre and Community Education Development
Association (CEDA) that will phase in a structured independent living program for youth between the ages of 16 to 21 years. Youth who need an innovative housing program focused on providing a safe and supportive continuum of structure and supervision ranging from peer support to more direct staffing involvement in day-to-day activities.The Casual Respite Helper will provide case management and direct support to the youth residents on a flexible schedule, day/evening/weekend, as needed for additional care and/or supervision for the youth.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with Indigenous youth and their families.
- Establishing trusting relationships with youth to improve their health and well-being.
- Ability to use strength-based, solution-focused and non-judgmental approaches.
- 42Ability to take initiative and direction, working well within a team setting.
- Flexibility to workdays, evenings and weekends, as may be required.
- Understanding of Indigenous customs, experience, traditions, and values is an asset.
- First Aid/CPR valid certification.
- Class 5, Manitoba driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be considered an asset.
- Current (within 3 months) Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry and Prior Contact checks
