Position Description:

Under the supervision and direction of the Operation Manager and in accordance with the Centre's philosophy, goals, standard practices, the incumbent functions as a member of the Eagle Women’s Lodge team in providing supportive services designed to enable Indigenous women to achieve change and growth.

Qualification Required:

Education and Qualifications

  • Certificate in the field of human services preferred and a minimum of one-year related social service work experience or grade 12 with a minimum of two years’ work-related experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Awareness of the effects of abuse and family violence on women and children is required as well as the recognition of the needs associated with healing and ways to meet those needs.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and traditions, community needs and issues, and Indigenous women's issues.
  • Knowledge of an Indigenous language or dialect considered an asset.
  • CPR/First Aid certificate, ASSIST Suicide Prevention Training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training or agreement to obtain certificates within six months of employment.
  • Must provide a current Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry Check.

All Indigenous Women's Healing Centre Employees

  • Must maintain professional boundaries with the residents.
  • Must keep personal /home scenarios private and separate from work environment.
  • Must follow the confidentiality policy.
  • Are always expected to build trusting relationships with residents and their children and to model appropriate behaviors.
  • Must ensure that child safety is paramount consideration in all services and supports provided.
  • Are expected to work with residents in a manner that is non-judgmental, accepting, and respectful of differing values, ideas, and beliefs.
  • Have a duty to report immediately to the proper authorities and to the Operations Manager if they believe that a resident or child may be unsafe.
  • Have a duty to immediately report suspected child abuse or child protection concerns to the Operations Manager.
  • Have a duty to report to the Winnipeg Police Service and to the Operations Manager immediately, any incidence of violence causing injury.
