JOB SUMMARY

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall design, delivery, management and organization of the literacy program. This includes the coordination and ensuring the successful delivery of literacy programming to Indigenous adult learners.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide supervision, leadership and coordination to the NLLC staff.
  • Maintain student records, oversee student’s progress and assess and identify academic needs of students.
  • Provide tutors for students as required.
  • Perform initial assessment of new students, including statistical information, current level of skill, interests and goals.
  • Assist in developing a plan for each student that is appropriate to their interests, level of ability, and specific goals.
  • Ensure ongoing evaluation of program participants in the areas of achievement, special needs, new goals, etc. including anecdotal reports and attendance.
  • Ensure ongoing communication with students and Director of Education to document concerns or needs.
  • Manage human resources issues with support from the Human Resource department such as; recruitment and selection of staff, progressive discipline, collective agreement interpretation and adherence, performance evaluations, payroll information, professional development, policies and delegation.
  • Responsible for training new employees in accordance with established policies and procedures and reviews training policy as required with staff.
  • Work in cooperation with other CAHRD departments, agencies and organizations.
  • Monitor, direct, and assign work to employees.
  • Support staff to ensure appropriate lesson plans, communication with students, behavior, and dress.
  • Plan with Instructors for variety in programming.
  • Develop evaluation tools with Director to ensure student and practitioner’s needs are met.
  • Ensure program resources are available and maintain an inventory of program resources and equipment.
  • Assist in the transition of students from literacy to further education or training programs.
  • Provide support for students as issues arise.
  • Advocate on behalf of students, including providing student guidance and academic advising.
  • Materials evaluation, purchasing, ordering, inventories.
  • Prepare reports, program statistics, and funding applications as needed which includes attendance, enrollment, resources developed or obtained, identification of needed supports, training, etc.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of CAHRD.
  • Perform other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or a combination of 5 years of experience and education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, database systems, and internet.
  • Demonstrate strong time-management, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to apply effective problem-solving with an understanding of conflict resolution and team building.
  • Experience in managing and supervising staff.
  • Multitask and organize work efficiently in a busy work environment.
  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
  • Knowledge of working and managing in a unionized environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Indigenous community in Winnipeg.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
