POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME (Mon – Fri, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm)
Background: The incumbent will be responsible to provide families of children and youth the greatest opportunity to rediscover their power to make family decisions and reconcile to the strengths of the family within an Indigenous framework. This framework includes gathering the people in their support network, provide programming and support in accordance with the family’s needs and reflective of Ma Mama Wi Chi Itata Centre’s philosophy.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in the area of Human Services or acceptable equivalent/related experience.
- Working knowledge of the Child Welfare Legislation and Standards.
- Thorough understanding of the Family Group Conference model.
- Understanding of and ability to promote culturally sensitive care for children.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with families, young parents, and team members.
- Ability to work independently and to set and meet deadlines.
- Ability to be flexible, meaning working some evenings and weekends when necessary. Sometimes we have youth at Isobel’s that require immediate FGC mentor intervention, and this doesn't always happen during work hours.
- Ability to implement program policies and protocols.
- Ability to plan and implement an effective conference with all youth and their supports.
- Understands the challenges youth face generally and as adolescent parents.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in written form, including effective use of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and email.
- Understanding of and ability to promote culturally sensitive care for children in keeping with Indigenous values and community issues.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationship with Indigenous and non-Indigenous mandated and non-mandated organizations.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Subject to a Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry and Prior Contact checks.
