OVERVIEW: Reporting to the Support Work Program Manager, the program assistant will work effectively with SAI and SECFS staff. The Program Assistant will coordinate with SECFS to arrange support worker requests, recruit staff for SAI, and maintain communication with the SAI team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Communicate with SECFS Direct Service Workers (DSWs) to arrange support worker requests efficiently.
  • Recruit individuals to serve as support staff.
  • Communication with the SAI Maintenance team to respond to repairs, moving furniture, and any other needs.
  • Responsible for providing a support function to SWP Coordinators, Intake Coordinator, and Program Manager.
  • Assist with transportation and document delivery to SECFS main offices.
  • Fulfilling shopping needs of the program; requesting Cheque Requisitions, keeping track of receipts, and submitting them with proper documentation to the finance department.
  • Maintain and oversee filing system – physical and digital.
  • Ensure support worker checks are prioritized based on expiry dates and assist with these tasks as need be.
  • Responsible for meeting minutes in team meetings.
  • Plan team building opportunities within SAI. Preparing and planning for holidays, celebrations, and participation in community events.
  • Create and deliver relevant training to staff and support workers.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education and three years’ experience in social services.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a community -based environment with a high attention to detail.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
  • Preference given to those with the ability to communicate in Ojibway.
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must have a current satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check, Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), and Prior Contact Check as a condition of employment.
