Position Overview
Under the immediate supervision of the Hospital Services Program Manager; the incumbent is responsible for:
- Supporting, participating in and interpreting the philosophy, objectives and policies for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA).
- Supporting and participating in regional utilization initiatives.
- In collaboration with other health professionals, coordinating discharge planning for Indigenous patients throughout the WRHA in a professional manner.
- Demonstrating effective communication and teaching skills with Indigenous patients and hospital staff.
- Demonstrating interest and participation in professional development activities.
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years recent experience working with Indigenous patients in an acute care setting.
- Must have extensive experience working in and with the Indigenous community and be familiar with available resources both locally and in rural locations.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Bachelor's degree in a health or social services discipline; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and traditional healing practices.
- Must have knowledge of MS Office (Word), Outlook, Email, knowledge of Access database.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must have knowledge of the First Nation and Inuit Health Branch policies and procedures; functions and roles of Nursing Stations; First Nation Health Centres; Northern Medical Unit; and Telehealth technology.
- Familiarity in implementing a multi-disciplinary team approach to client care.
- Demonstrated competency in patient teaching.
- Knowledge of Indigenous languages preferred.
- Knowledge of traditional and/or contemporary Indigenous customs and practices.
