Kookum's Place Daycare

Kookum’s Place Daycare provides CAHRD’s students with childcare services while they are attending school.  The name “Kookum” means “Grandmother”, originally from the Saulteaux language.  It reminds the community of our responsibility to our extended families and our need to serve the children, parents, and the community.  We strive to operate by the Seven Sacred Teachings:  Wisdom, Love, Honour, Courage, Honesty, Humility, and Truth.

Our Philosophy

At Kookum’s Place Infant and Preschool Centres, we believe every child should be valued and respected, accepted and included, as the unique individuals they are – each with a variety of gifts and special abilities.  Each child’s journey is treated with respect, appreciating their cultural background, gender and developmental abilities.

Children learn most through their natural curiosity.  All children are entitled to full participation and support to meet their individual needs.  Our programs will provide a warm, stimulating learning environment that will assist each child to grow to their own developmental potential.

Our curriculum provides success experiences to encourage all children to develop their creativity, self-confidence and a positive self-image.  Children will also have the opportunity to solve problems, make choices, and become independent.

Parents are the most signficant person in a child’s life.  Staff strive to build strong relationships with parents and recognize open communication is the key to providing consistency in a child’s life.
