Neeginan College of Applied Technology

Neeginan College of Applied Technology is CAHRD’s in-house technical and vocational post-secondary training division.  CAHRD works closely in partnership with industry, business and training institutions to ensure that our students are prepared for jobs in high-demand industries.

Neeginan College offers a variety of full-time training programs that deliver hands-on work experience in a sustainable career.  We provide free information sessions on the current programs followed by a tour of our college facilities.  These sessions run every Friday at 9:00 a.m. in room 304.  Please call ahead via (204) 989-7110 since the sessions fill up quickly.

All new applicants must complete a Level Placement Assessment (LPA) to help determine their academic level.  The Level Placement Assessment is conducted in a group setting.  Level Placement Assessments are held every Monday and Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in room 304.

Our full-time training programs range from 6-14 months in duration, with admission requirements being a minimum Grade 10 education.  To read more on each program, click on the program name for additional information to appear below.

BUILDING OPERATIONS TECHNICIAN
  • Start Date: September 3, 2024 – June 30, 2025 (10 months)
  • Grade 12 is required (Alternative entrance options may be considered)
  • Duration:  10 Month Program

Learn a broad range of current industry practices and trends in a growing profession, gain the foundational knowledge, skills and abilities to maintain high performing buildings, and learn to trouble shoot integrated building systems. Training includes; Building Operations Fundamentals, General Building Maintenance, Introduction to Refrigeration and Ice Maintenance, Flooring and Ceiling Maintenance, Four Season Building Operations, Electrical Fundamentals and Maintenance, Life Safety Systems, Basic Plumbing Maintenance, HVAC Fundamentals, Control Systems, Building Systems Integration. Certification provided through MITT (Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology).

INDUSTRIAL WELDING PROGRAM
  • Start Date: September 3, 2024 – June 30, 2025 (10 months)
  • Grade 10 is Required (Alternative Entrance Options May Be Considered)
  • Duration:  10 Month Program

The Industrial Welding Program provides the essential skills and training to meet the standards of the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB). We provide training in: workplace safety, trade-related math and measurement, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, reading and applying Canadian Welding Bureau data sheets, interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, trade-related math, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Metal Core Arc Welding/Flux Core Arc Welding (MCAW/FCAW), oxyacetylene welding and cutting, plasma cutting, and air-arc gouging. The program also includes training on the safe usage of hand/power tools and machinery such as: drill presses, band saws, industrial iron workers, cut off saws and a hydraulic press. Graduates of this program will be issued a CWB qualification card, earning up to 3 tickets (4 positions), if the student successfully passes the welding tests, entitling them to work at any CWB certified company worldwide.

TUNGSTEN INERT GAS (TIG) WELDING PROGRAM
  • Start Date: September 3, 2024 – June 30, 2025 (10 months)
  • Grade 10 is Required (Alternative Entrance Options May Be Considered)
  • Duration:  10 Month Program

The TIG Welding Program provides the essential skills and training for the Canadian Welding Bureau Welding accreditation. This program includes workplace safety, trade-related math and measurement, WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, blueprint drawings and documentation reading, metallurgy, cutting fundamentals. The welding training includes: oxy-fuel welding and Tungsten Inert Gas welding (TIG). Graduates of this program have the opportunity to earn up to ten CWB tickets, and will be issued a CWB Certification Card entitling them to work at any CWB certified company worldwide.

MACHINIST - LEVEL 1 APPRENTICESHIP / COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROL (CNC) OPERATOR PROGRAM
  • Start Date: September 3, 2024 – June 30, 2025 (10 months)
  • Grade 10 Required (Alternative Entrance Options May Be Considered)
  • Duration:  10 Month Program

The Machinist Program meets Level 1 Apprenticeship training requirements, covering blueprint reading, safety, operation and maintenance of tools and measuring devices, operation of manual lathes and milling machines, grinding machines and the construction of items from metal and related materials. The Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Operation Program provides training in the operation of both the CNC and the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). These are computer operated machines that are increasingly used in the manufacturing and aerospace industries to increase accuracy and efficiency when producing parts. This skill-based training program also offers an introduction to Computer Assisted Drawing (CAD) and Computer Assisted Manufacturing (CAM) software. This program provides training both as an Apprentice Machinist and a CNC/CMM Operator. Students will also participate in Neeginan College’s Program Essential Course, which focuses on essential skill training, personal development and employment readiness.

SOCIAL INNOVATION AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
  • Start Date: September 3, 2024 – June 30, 2025 (10 months)
  • Grade 12 Math and English preferred (Alternative Entrance Options May Be Considered)
  • Duration:  10 Month Certificate Program

This community based program offered in partnership with Ka Ni Kanichihk Inc. and accredited through Red River College. This program focuses on developing the skills required to work effectively in Community Development/Community Economic Development. You will acquire a solid understanding of the issues and barriers affecting developing communities, and learn how to be a facilitator of change. You will study topics including Culture and Indigenous History, Organizational Development, Program Planning, Financial Management, and Interpersonal Communications.

GAS TURBINE TECHNICIAN PROGRAM

  • Grade 12 is Required (Alternative Entrance Options May Be Considered)
  • Duration:  8 Month Program (Full Time)

The Gas Turbine Technician Program is accredited certificate program, consisting of classroom theory and practical training. This program is specific to Standard Aero in Winnipeg, but is also applicable to the larger Aerospace industry. This program consists of working primarily with gas turbine engines and components; also assembly, dis-assembly, inspection, precision measurement and use of OEM tools on aircraft engines.

COMMUNITY SERVICE WORKER AND TEACHER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
  • Start Date: September 3, 2024 – August 29, 2025 (12 months)
  • Grade 12 Required (Alternative Entrance Options May Be Considered)
  • Duration:  12 Month Program

The Community Service Worker and Teacher Development Program is a hybrid education and training program designed for people interested in careers in community service and/or education, but may face barriers to employment and need extra assistance to succeed. In this year-long program, participants will learn the fundamentals of child development, how children process information and learn, group supervision and management, de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques. Participants will also learn indigenous perspectives and wellness and communication, advocacy, and leadership. Practicums will be held with all six Winnipeg school divisions, so participants can gain immersive work experience.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR DIPLOMA
  • Start Date: March 4, 2024 – February 27, 2026 (2 years)
  • Grade 12 is Required (Alternative Entrance Options May Be Considered)
  • Duration:  Two (2) Year Program

The Early Childhood Educator Diploma program provides the essential skills and training for Indigenous people to work as child care professionals in group care settings with children. This is a two-year accredited program. Students will also participate in Neeginan College’s Program Essential Course, which focuses on essential skill training, personal development and employment readiness.

HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR PROGRAM
  • Start Date: April 2, 2024 – July 12, 2024 (3 months)
  • Grade 12 is Required  (Alternative entrance options may be considered) A Driver`s License is required.
  • Duration:  3 Month Program (Full time)

The Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate Program consists of classroom theory and practical training. A Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment such as; front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors and other pieces of equipment. The program will focus on core competencies of operating procedures, safety regulations, and work place essential skills including time management, problem solving, decision making and team work. Students will also participate in Neeginan College’s Essential Skills program and Program Essentials course with a focus on personal development and employment readiness.
