An organization that fosters hope and opportunities to empower children, youth and families throughout Manitoba requires an experienced Therapist within the Alternative Parent Home (APH) Service Area. The Therapist is responsible for providing direct client intervention, conducting assessments, developing intervention plans, consulting, providing therapeutic programming, and foster parent training. This position falls under the collective agreement.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: of the Therapist include, but are not limited to:


  • Completes internal assessment documentation on all intakes
  • Completes relevant certification in all assessment tools required
  • Provides recommendations based on a thorough assessment of all new clients.

Care Planning:

  • Meets regularly with the Clinical Coordinator and CCM’s
  • Supports the development and implementation of care plans by the CCM’s
  • Assists the CCM’s by providing input to the clinical aspects of case management that involve therapeutic issues, such as intake, assessment, care plans, discharge planning, support requests and safety planning
  • Provides regularly scheduled consultation with the staff team by attending staff meetings
  • Assists the team in problem solving to address client issues

Direct Service and Inter-Agency Consultation:

  • Provides direct clinical services to clients as needed
  • Engages clients' families in the treatment process, whenever possible
  • Provides consultation to collateral agencies such as child and family services, schools, and probation services

Staff Team Professional Development:

  • Facilitates topic-specific training sessions as needed to assist the staff team and foster parents in order to further develop identified areas of growth and learning
  • Actively participates in their own profession growth through relevant training

Continuity of Care:

  • Participates as a member of the APH team
  • Extends consultation whenever possible by sharing APH resources and information
  • Attends staff meetings and contributes to the overall functioning of the agency by assuming appropriate additional responsibilities as needed
  • Represents the APH program both within and outside of the agency
  • Maintains appropriate documentation of all clinical activities
  • Maintains open communication within the agency and fulfills administrative duties as assigned
  • Maintains clinical/professional development through reading, attending workshops and peer and clinical consultation on a regular basis
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Master’s degree in applicable field of practice from an accredited university
  • Must have 5 years’ recent and relevant experience in a Supervised clinical setting
  • Must have minimum 4 years’ experience working directly with children/youth and families
  • Willingness to participate in agency required training
  • Ability to complete evidence based clinical assessments and make recommendations.
  • Knowledge of systems and attachment theory
  • Ability to develop and deliver relevant training
  • Trauma and Resiliency informed practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and take initiative
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing and being


  • Registration with accrediting body
  • Familiarization with Circle of Courage principles
  • ASIST, NVCI, and cultural competency training, or willingness to obtain
  • Ability to build effective work relationships as well as partnerships with external
