An organization that fosters hope and opportunities to empower children, youth and families throughout Manitoba requires an experienced Support Worker within the Housing First Program. The Support Worker provides support to the Housing First Case Manager and to the participants of the Transition Services Housing First program.  Duties and responsibilities are carried out within a trauma and resiliency informed framework that promotes the Agency's Therapeutic Model of Care, including the agency Mission, Guiding Principles and the Circle of Courage® values. Duties are performed within a team environment that focusses on establishing collaborative and trusting relationships with one another and with agency clients. Providing culturally competent services and ensuring client safety, choice and control are priorities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: of the Support Worker include, but are not limited to:

Administrative:

  • Assists with record keeping and database entry as needed
  • Handles program funds as directed by HF Case manager
  • Attend weekly Doorways meeting and monthly HPS resource meetings and Winnipeg Rental Network meetings as needed
  • Attends and participates in program meetings
  • Attend pertinent trainings offered by Doorways
  • Implements and adheres to all agency and program policies and procedures

Client Related:

  • Supports the implementation of realistic goals and objectives through regular community and home visits
  • Assistance with activities to support independence and housing (i.e. daily structure, grocery shopping, household tasks)
  • Serves as a role model for clients
  • Acts as an advocate on clients’ behalf
  • Accesses and utilizes community resources for clients (i.e. Furniture acquisition, Household supplies, Food banks, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C
  • NVCI, Suicide Intervention and Child Development as per Agency policy
  • Willingness to obtain training as per Agency policies
  • The ability to work independently in the community
  • Understanding of a trauma-informed model
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of community resources/experience in community partnerships
  • Valid driver’s license and drivers abstract (subject to approval)
  • Reliable vehicle with all-purpose insurance & 2 million third party liability
  • Current (within 3 months) Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, or willingness to obtain
  • Current (within 3 months) Child Abuse Registry Check, or willingness to obtain

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • Child and Youth Care Worker diploma or certificate, or a degree in an applicable human services field (preferably B.S.W.) and at least one year of experience in the youth care field
  • Knowledge and experience with groups and group dynamics
  • Knowledge of Indigenous languages and cultures would be considered an asset
