JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Employment Services oversees the daily managerial activities of the Employment Services Department and is directly responsible for the supervising Employment Counsellors and support staff. The Director ensures all staff provides effective client services to Aboriginal people seeking education, training and employment opportunities. This position is accountable for department information, managing client files, communicating fundamental goals and expectations and reports to the Executive Director of CAHRD.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

  • Provides supervision, leadership, and coordination for the Employment Services Department.
  • Participates in various human resource functions including hiring, training, problem solving, disciplinary actions, performance evaluations, and staff development.
  • Provides support and guidance on policies and procedures.
  • Generates accurate statistics for reporting requirements, and submits monthly/quarterly reports.
  • Liaises with external organizations on behalf of CAHRD programs and services.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

  • Bachelor Degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, or Human Resources Management is required. An acceptable combination of post-secondary education and experience may also be considered.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • 3-5 years of experience in a managerial position and in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills including public speaking; demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and team building.
  • Must be able to multitask while prioritizing assignments; must have excellent attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of Winnipeg’s urban Aboriginal population and community-based resources.
  • Competent in MS-Office applications, internet use and various database software.
  • Valid Manitoba driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
